La langue maternelle est la langue pr\u00e9f\u00e9r\u00e9e d\u2019une personne. C\u2019est la langue de son c\u0153ur. Cela ne change jamais dans la vie, m\u00eame si on \u00e9pouse une personne ayant une autre langue maternelle que soi-m\u00eame.<\/p>\n<p class=\"western\" lang=\"fr-FR\">On peut parler une ou plusieurs autres langues couramment. On peut immigrer dans un pays o\u00f9 sa propre langue maternelle n\u2019est ni parl\u00e9, ni apprise. La langue maternelle reste la m\u00eame.<\/p>\n<p class=\"western\" lang=\"fr-FR\">J\u2019ai d\u00e9couvert qu\u2019il existe <strong><em>une seule exception<\/em><\/strong> o\u00f9 les jeunes, par leur langue pr\u00e9f\u00e9r\u00e9e, la langue dont ils font le plus souvent usage, changent de langue maternelle:<\/p>\n<p class=\"western\" lang=\"fr-FR\">C\u2019est quand ils ont fr\u00e9quent\u00e9 pendant plusieurs ann\u00e9es, l\u2019\u00e9cole dans cette autre langue. Ils passent 80% de la journ\u00e9e avec cette langue, y font leurs devoirs de maison, causent avec leurs amis et font leurs hobbys. M\u00eame si les parents viennent d\u2019un autre pays et ont une autre culture, un changement de langue maternelle peut se produire.<\/p>\n<p class=\"western\"><span lang=\"fr-FR\">Un exemple: <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"western\"><span lang=\"fr-FR\">Dans le sud de la France, nous avons rencontr\u00e9 un jeune homme avec un passeport am\u00e9ricain (\u00c9tats-Unis), ayant pass\u00e9 la plus grande partie de sa vie dans le c\u00f4t\u00e9 fran<\/span><span lang=\"fr-FR\">\u00e7<\/span><span lang=\"fr-FR\">ais de la Belgique. Notre groupe \u00e9tait compos\u00e9 pour la plupart de gens parlant l\u2019anglais ou l\u2019allemand comme langue maternelle. Ce jeune avait donc \u00e9t\u00e9 pri\u00e9 de traduire du fran<\/span><span lang=\"fr-FR\">\u00e7<\/span><span lang=\"fr-FR\">ais en anglais. <strong><em>Ce n\u2019\u00e9tait pas possible<\/em><\/strong>. Il ne le pouvait pas. Aucun mot ne sortait de sa bouche.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"western\"><span lang=\"fr-FR\">Deux semaines plus tard, quelqu\u2019un lui avait demand\u00e9 de faire l\u2019inverse, c\u2019est-\u00e0-dire de traduire de l\u2019anglais en fran<\/span><span lang=\"fr-FR\">\u00e7<\/span><span lang=\"fr-FR\">ais, et l\u00e0, il <strong><em>n\u2019avait aucune difficult\u00e9<\/em><\/strong>.
